A Brief History of Time

In 1988 theoretical physicist and cosmologist Stephen Hawking published the book “A Brief History of Time”. In 20 years more than 10 million copies have been sold, and it has been translated into 35 languages. It is a bestseller, and for good reason.

a-brief-history-of-timeThe book gives an introduction to the world of science for readers without knowledge about scientific theories. He uses non-technical terms and illustrative examples to explain the structure, origin, development and end of the universe. In his easily understandable explanations, he takes us through; Basic concepts like space and time, fundamental forces and building blocks, Theories of general relativity and quantum mechanics, Cosmological phenomena such as the Big Bang and black holes, And the search for a unifying theory.

I think it is important not to dismiss this book on the basis that it is science. I know quite a few people who wouldn’t pick this book up, for the only reason that they are intimidated by science. To be honest, for some years I have been that type of person. The thing is, the information in this book should be common knowledge. I believe an informed population is vital to the survival of humans.

Please pick up this book and really give it a try – it might be more interesting than you thought. And always remember – smiles are contagious 😀
